Subjects requirements:

• Minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry must be met. • English (home language or first additional language) - 60%. • Mathematics – 60% • Physical Sciences – 60%. • Life Science – 60%. • National Benchmark Test (NBT): Academic and Quantitative Literacy (AQL) + Mathematics (MAT) test results will also be used to assess your application. NBT’s must be written before 30 June. Applicants who already hold a University degree will not be required to write the NBT’s, as your academic record will be used along with your Gr 12 results. • Students must be registered, and will be assisted to do so, as medical students with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA). An HPCSA registration fee is incurred in the first and final year of study and will be factored into the student fees. • All students must annually provide proof of professional indemnity insurance, before registration can be finalised. The Medical School will facilitate this process. SELECTION OF STUDENTS • Applicants will be admitted as per MBChB Admission Guidelines. • Places are limited and admission is subject to the Medical Selection Committee processes. • Candidates will be selected on merit during the year preceding the first year of study with consideration being given to those applying from non- feepaying schools. • Compliance with the minimum admission requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission to the Medical programme due to limited spaces. • International applicants who come from countries that have medical schools, are currently not considered for placement in the MBChB programme. • Current MandelaUni students in the Faculties of Health Sciences or Science, or students in such faculties from other tertiary institutions need to refer to the Faculty of Health Sciences prospectus for their specific admission requirements and selection procedure, over and above which is listed here, and would need to commence the degree from the first year.
