Programme Overview:

This programme is tailor-made to meet the needs of employers in the financial planning sector who require both management and specialist knowledge and skills. Nelson Mandela University in co-operation with the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), is the first academic institution to offer a formal BCom degree in Financial Planning, giving access to membership of the FPI. The FPI is the highly regarded professional certification institute in the financial planning industry in Southern Africa, carrying an international certification benchmark of recognition by the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB).

BEd: Senior Phase and Further Education & Training (SP: Grades 7-9) (FET: Grades 10-12) COMMERCE STREAM

The aim of the programme is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to effectively mediate learning in the field of Senior Phase and Further Education and Training, specialising in specific school subjects. Students will be expected to choose two FET specialisations and one related SP specialisation within the stream below. COMMERCE STREAM: FET: Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy. SP: EMS, Mathematics Please note: To specialise in Mathematical Literacy applicants MUST have taken Mathematics at school.

BSc: Construction Economics (Quantity Surveying with Financial and Business Management)

Students are introduced to the following fields of expertise related to the quantity surveying profession and construction industry: construction methods and materials; costs of various construction elements and components; the influence of the economy on the industry; rights and obligations of different parties; the use of computers and the principles of entrepreneurial success; personal and professional ethics; and general professional practice and management. Take note: The BSc (Construction Economics) is followed by the BSc Honours (Quantity Surveying) in order to develop the additional expertise needed to register as a candidate quantity surveyor with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession.
