Optometrists can engage in research, academia, hospital settings or public health initiatives, private practise, corporate optometry and industry consulting.

Career opportunities exist in public and private emergency services, both local and abroad. Holders of the qualification will be entitled to register as independent Emergency Care Practitioners with the HPCSA.
