Programme Overview:

The purpose of the qualification is to equip students with more advanced knowledge in the Construction Management discipline and the ability to apply that knowledge, skills and values to make a meaningful contribution to the economy and national development by ensuring optimal utilisation of resources.

Subjects requirements:

• Diploma: Building (360 NQF credits) or a qualification deemed equivalent by the department and approved by the Faculty Management Committee (FMC). • It is further expected of students to comply with the following requirements: a weighted average of 60% in the final year of study in the diploma. Students must also obtain at least 60% for the core module (Construction Management) in the final year of study in the Diploma for entry into the Advanced Diploma programme. Alternatively: • Students obtaining (55% - 59%) in either of the above criteria must submit a detailed breakdown of two years’ proven post-diploma experience, under the auspices of a mentor professionally registered with either the SACPCMP, SACQSP, or a relevant Built Environment Professional Body), as well as periods of employment, certified by the relevant company.

Career opportunities:

Employment opportunities exist mostly with private building contractors as well as with local authorities and state departments. Graduates could also be considered for middle management in the built environment and would be eligible to register as candidate project or construction managers with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Profession (SACPCMP).

Please note that a student may articulate to the Dip (Logistics) is he/ she obtains an average of 60% for all the subjects offered in the first year of the Dip (Inventory & Sores Management) qualification.

PGCE: FET (Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Further Education and Training)

The purpose of the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Further Education and Training (FET) is to “cap” an undergraduate degree. The PGCE FET aims to develop graduates as competent, professional teachers, committed to the enhancement of education in diverse high schools in South Africa and beyond. PGCE: FET graduates will be equipped to teach: Two subjects at FET level (grade 10 to 12) Successful completion of the PGCE will allow candidate’s admission to the BEd Honours or Postgraduate Diploma in Education qualifications (NQF level 8).
